Can Gerard Pique Survive Xavi’s Chop At Barcelona?
Barcelona coach Xavi is reportedly looking to chop centre-back Gerard Pique from his squad.
The 35-year-old defender enjoyed a 14-year stint at Camp Nou but his career is now hanging by a thread following the arrival of youthful and highly rated Jules Kounde.
Jules Kounde joined Barcelona last week after eschewing approaches from English Premier League giants Chelsea. Chelsea were left in shock after Barcelona hijacked Kounde in the final hours of the deal.
After snubbing Chelsea, Kounde penned a contract that will expire in 2027 and Barcelona has put a prize tag of €1 billion as the release clause of the player.
The coming in of Kounde is now impacting negatively on the career of Pique who is no longer Xavi’s favorite and trusted man. As per reports, it is said that Xavi is no longer interested in keeping Pique at Camp Nou due to his deteriorating physical fitness.
Despite his deteriorating physical fitness, Gerard Pique maintained that he is a guaranteed starter at Barca.
“I will be the starter. If you dare, bring the best centre-back in the world and he will come to be a substitute, said Pique.
Contrary to Gerard Pique’s words, Xavi said there is no one who is a guaranteed starter at Barca.
“Just like everyone else, everyone starts from zero, everyone will compete for a position. He who performs best will play more.”
“The more solutions that I have as a manager, the better, we are putting together a great team, the club is making a big effort in order to be competitive and we have to show it. My objective is to return Barcelona to the top of the world”
